What mathematical formula do i use for investment returns?

investment

For example: i invest $1000 a month for 3 years w/ an average 10% return. How do i figure compound interest for the future of my investment. Basically i need around 40K in 3 years, so I’m trying to figure what i need to invest to make it a possibility. Thanks.
